If you are an architect, contractor or interior designer, then you know the challenges of specifying a compliant doorset within your wall system. This challenge has become even more difficult since the launch of the Building Safety Regulator in 2022 with approvals of high-rise buildings through Gateway 2 have been delayed.
Furthermore, the increased scrutiny on compliance has made architects lives more difficult, resulting in less time, more training and accurate data from manufacturers hard to find.
In this blog, we are going to tell you how you can get an accurate specification that gets your project through Gateway 2 with our Specification Support framework.
What is Specification Support?
The Specification Support framework guarantees that your doorset system is fully compliant within your wall system. The process takes architects from RIBA stage 2 to 5 through a journey of face-to-face workshops, including drawing reviews, sample checks and doughnuts! This process allows architects, contractors and interior designers to be confident that their specification is compliant with the ever-changing regulations and the Building Safety Regulator, if required.
The Specification Support framework is a three-step process. Here is what to expect:
RIBA Stage 2-5 In Depth Knowledge
The purpose of the meeting is to assist Architects in meeting their deadlines at RIBA stage 2-5 with specialist advice to achieve a compliant system of products.
One-to-One Training Built Around Your Project
Typically a 1-hour meeting (per workshop) with Keelan; our dedicated specification support advisor. This can be adapted to suit the scale of a specific project to suit your needs.
The Goal? Compliant Specifications
At the end of the process, we will have a completed specification, ready for BSA sign-off.
How else do we support architects, contractors and interior designers?
Competent CPDs
We have a range of competent CPDs to take the time-consuming and financial burden away from architect practices to upskill their team. Our CPDs include our ‘Getting it Right – doors and walls as a system’ which covers fire safety and compliance; exploring the regulations, understanding fire testing assessments and highlighting common compliance pitfalls and how to avoid them. And our recently launched ‘Building Smoke Control Systems’ which helps architects and smoke contractors understand recent industry changes surrounding smoke control. We uncover what the standards mean and how to best put them into practice.
NBS and Accurate Data
We know that one of architects’ biggest frustrations is the lack of accurate and missing data to specifically compliantly. We ensure that all of our datasheets and data is readily available through the resources section of our website, as well as on NBS, including BIM models.
Samples and Breakfast Mornings
We will come to your offices with our door samples for an informal bakery chat and chance to chat about your projects and discuss any fire compliance concerns, with no presentations! This is a chance for the whole team to come and ask questions, no matter how big or small and receive direct feedback on live projects as well as upskilling knowledge.
