Earlier this year, we announced our move to Selo House to provide our customers with a world-class manufacturing facility and exceptional customer service. The new facility will also help us deliver on our ESG targets, through improved quality control, new machinery and reducing our energy consumption.
This means we have invested heavily in new equipment, such as our brand new CNC machine, which has raised the bar for the quality and speed of our timber doorsets. In addition, we have supported our ESG strategy by investing in our new biomass heater and furnace which provides our new premises with a low carbon heating solution.
According to Talbotts, an estimated 22% of UK greenhouse gas emissions comes from the supply of heating and hot water to buildings. The UK is aiming to reduce these greenhouse gas emissions by 90% to meet the 2050 carbon target. At Selo House, our target is to be manufacturing 50,000 doorsets a year, which will produce a considerable amount of excess timber.
To prevent this timber going to waste, we have invested in a new biomass heater and furnace system, which will filter the excess timber generated by production into a shredder. The shredded wood is then filtered and combusts in the biomass to use as heating at Selo House, providing a sustainable heating system.
“I set the goal when we planned this expansion into timber doorset manufacturing that our production had to be world class in every area. We have a vision to transform the way timber doorsets are designed, procured, manufactured, installed and maintained as well as driving towards net zero. The biomass heater and furnace are a key part of that plan and demonstrate the level of investment we are putting into achieving this vision.” said Managing Director Hans Purdom.
Selo worked with consultants, Environmental Compliance Solutions LTD (ECS) who specialise in Environmental compliance services for those within the waste wood and biomass industry.
Selo have also embarked on an ESG strategy, to improve our environmental, social and governance practices. Our environmental targets include reducing and optimising our raw extraction purchase, reducing energy consumption and GHG consumption. Our social targets are to improve health and safety and promote a culture that spurs engagement and motivation. Our Governance targets are to improve risk management, 100% of our supply chain to meet the sustainable procurement process and improve our quality control processes.
We are working hard to meet our 2025 ESG targets and deliver the plans on the roadmap to provide a more sustainable door solution for our customers.
