Here at Selo, we consistently develop new innovations to bring to market, whilst keeping it simple, which is our core value number 1. We understand the construction industry can be complex. Our R&D team investigates problems within the construction industry and how we can solve this through product innovation. This is exactly why our concealed smoke damper, FumaCE, was developed last year; the first of its kind on the market. Our innovations become the industry norms! Since the launch, we often get asked what does a smoke control damper do?

A smoke control damper plays a crucial role in a building’s fire safety, helping to contain and manage smoke during a fire. Its importance cannot be overstated when designing an effective fire protection system.

Smoke Control Dampers can be used in any type of buildings but mainly in high-rise buildings, commercial construction, hospitals and hotels. You would often have a smoke control damper on each floor of a building, therefore, in the event of a fire on a specific floor the corresponding damper will open. This significantly reduces the spread of flames and smoke to other floors, allowing evacuation time and ensuring safety of occupants.

It is a safety feature that helps minimise risks during fire, protect people and property, and comply with safety regulations. Smoke can cause significant property damage, even if a fire is contained to a small area. By containing the spread of smoke, smoke control dampers help minimise property damage to valuable infrastructure along with other elements.

Compared to other smoke dampers available, FumaCE, fits with our ‘What’ of creating beautiful interiors by being aesthetically pleasing. It has been designed and tested for use in smoke shafts to prevent the spread of smoke. Making sure our products are fully compliant to safety standard is imperative to us as an organisation; that is why FumaCE is certified to EN12101-8 for performance, tested according to EN1366-10, and classified to EN13501-4. This assures that our product not only meets but exceeds the requirements for fire and smoke protection in modern interiors. Presenting peace of mind on all fronts. Using FumaCE in your development will ensure maximum safety and the concealed frame offers a minimalist finish that won’t distract from your interior.

We understand the importance of durability, which is why we have tested to over 10,000 open and close cycles, ‘competition’ on the market have only tested to 300 cycles. FumaCE achieves a fire rating of EI120, which will give you 120 minutes that a door/assembly will resist the passage of fire structures for integrity and insulation in minutes. Having a higher fire resistance rating provides greater peace of mind when it comes to building safety. We’ve often found that other dampers are excessively heavy, making installation more labour-intensive, requiring additional manpower, and increasing installation time. By choosing FumaCE, you are choosing a solution that seamlessly integrates into your space, delivering both beauty and safety. A win win situation!
