We offer the full internal door range to our customers with a range of different finishing options, including concealed doors. We often get asked about concealed doors from architects and developers, such as ‘which doors are available concealed’ and ‘will a concealed finish make my door look like part of the wall?’. We have pulled together a blog answering some key areas about concealed doors.

A concealed door is intentionally hidden or not visible within its surrounding environment. Architects or developers will choose a concealed door for both interior and functionality. They have been designed to blend seamlessly into a wall in a building. Unlike traditional doors, which are easily noticeable, concealed doors are designed to be unobtrusive, often matching the texture, colour, or pattern of the adjacent walls or furniture.

What doors can be concealed?

Throughout a development, most doors can be designed to be concealed. Concealed doors are becoming increasingly more popular due to their modern look and functionality. Types of concealed doors you can get are flush doors, pivot doors, bookshelf doors, pocket doors and mechanical doors.

In industrial buildings, concealed doors are used strategically—not just for aesthetics, but for security, safety, and access control. Common locations for them include maintenance areas, security rooms, emergency exits and data centres. Our Quadra Riser door, a concealed metal riser door was designed for this purpose. Perfect for concealing fire-rated riser doors, access panels, and internal doors in corridors, landings, and other access areas.

What door finishes are available for riser doors?

One questions that comes up a lot when working on projects is; ‘what finishes can I have on a riser door?’. For our Quadra Riser Door, the standard finish is to RAL 9010 in dead matt finish. This is a full bodied, wax free, powder coat that can either be left as the final finish or you can paint over it to fully blend in with the wall.

Another option is to simply leave it as delivered, the dead matt finish blends in well with d walls. This is the simplest option with no extra work.

If a particular colour is required, we can either finish the door in a smooth powder coat or the textured powder coat to the RAL colour that you specified.

Finally tiling or stone, glass or mirrors – this is also covered in our Ligna riser range where the door can be tiled along with the rest of the wall.

How to get a riser door to look like part of a wall?

A common question we get asked when working with architects who want a concealed look is how to get riser doors to look like part of the wall.

There are a number of ways to achieve this, if you are looking to paint the door to match the walls. The Quadra Riser door comes in a dead matt finish which allows you to paint over the doorset. With the concealed flange, you can tape, join or skim in to ensure you get the concealed look.

If you are looking to wallpaper over the door, this is another option to get ensure it looks concealed. At Selo, in out FOA we have got test data for certain manufacturers of wallpaper to ensure your door still meet the correct certified standards. When it comes to wrapping the doorset, we have clear installation instructions to show how to do that and to prevent the wallpaper from pealing.

Our Ligna riser door has been designed to be used mainly in reception areas or an area you have a finish to such as tiled or with a mirror. The doorset is fire rated with these finishes to ensure it meets the correct standards and offers a seamlessly aesthetics.

Concealed Pocket doors and Concealed Timber doors

With our Enigma and Modulo doorset range we can also offer concealed doorsets within this, they are both made to blend in seamlessly with doors for a concealed look. When specifying pocket doors, architects will often go for a concealed pocket door as it hides the architraves to enhance your contemporary interior. Pocket doors when concealed will disappear into the wall cavity when opened. They are mainly used for the space-saving benefit as no swing clearance is needed. They can be automatic similar to our Motus Pocket door or manual operated. They are frequently used in modern offices, tight spaces like bathrooms or storage access areas.

Timber doors are made from solid wood or engineered timber. Flush timber doors are flat surface and can be easily concealed for your project. Or another option to get in concealed is panelled timber doors, these are usually chosen if they want a more decorative finish and are more traditional. You will often find concealed timber doors in residential, commercial or industrial projects.
